Welcome to Vision and Hearing Screeners

There are six unit standards in the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Vision and Hearing Screening) (Level 3) that have online resources. The first five of these units have been specially developed for technicians in Vision and Hearing Screening.

  • US 23375 (V1) Demonstrate knowledge of hearing impairment  3 credits

  • US 24895 (V1) Demonstrate knowledge of the visual system and vision impairment 6 credits

  • US 24892 and 24893 Undertake audiometry and tympanometry screening tests with children

The sixth unit is also part of other qualifications.

There are four unit standards in the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Vision Hearing Screening that have online resources.

There are two new unit standards:

  • US 28526 Record, interpret and explain vision and hearing screening results for children in a health or well being setting

  • US 28527 Carry out vision and hearing screening tests for children in a health or well being setting

The content of these unit standards covers the material presently in US 24892, 24893, and 24894.

Two other units are very similar to the units above, but have more recent versions, a change in credit value and a shorter title.

  • US 23375 (V2) Describe hearing impairment  5 credits

  • US 24895 (V2) Describe the visual system and vision impairment  5 credits

Make sure you choose the unit standards that are in the qualification that you are doing.

Make sure you do the correct assessment. Check the version number of the unit standard.
