    Welcome to vision hearing screening tests with children for the New Zealand Certificate in Vision Hearing Screening (Level 3).

    There are two new unit standards:

    • US 28526 Record, interpret and explain vision and hearing screening results for children in a health or wellbeing setting

    • US 28527 Carry out vision and hearing screening tests for children in a health or wellbeing setting

      Vision and hearing screening tests provide a quick and effective way to identify children who may have ear and eye problems and require further assessment or treatment.

      There are a number of screening tests that you may be required to undertake in your role as a Vision and Hearing Technician. These tests include:

      • tympanometry screening.

      • audiometry screening.

      • vision screening.

        • Vision

          This is an introduction to vision screening testing for children.

          It covers three tests:

          • Parr Letter-Matching Test
          • Snellen Vision Test Book
          • Colour Deficiency Test for 11 year old boys 

          It also details the interpreting of the results of these tests and what should happen next, according to the National Vision Hearing Screening Protocols.

        • Hearing

          This is an introduction to hearing screening tests for children.

          It covers two tests:

          • audiometry testing.
          • tymponometry testing. 

          It also details the interpreting of the results of these tests and what should happen next, according to the National Vision Hearing Screening Protocols.

        • Recording results

          The National Screening Protocols set out how the screening tests are interpreted, and what action should be taken.

          For US 28526 you need to record, interpret,and explain vision hearing screening results for children.

          • Completing US 28526 and US 28527

            You must be enrolled with Careerforce as a trainee in the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Vision Hearing Screening to complete the assessments for these unit standards and gain credit for them. Refer to the vision and hearing screening page of the Careerforce website for more information about enrolling in this qualification.
