Strategic purpose statement
The purpose of the New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work (Level 3) [Ref: 2448] is to provide the youth work sector with people who have the operational and theoretical knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to work in entry level roles with youth.
This qualification is targeted at new or potential entrants into the youth work sector, including those currently working with youth who would benefit from recognition of their skills in the workplace, and provides a pathway for entry into careers in the youth development sector.
Graduates will support the social and cultural aspirations of Māori and Pasifika people and demonstrate their commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their interactions with young people and their communities in their work.
Graduates will operate under general supervision as part of a team working with youth.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
- support young people using a youth development approach.
- contribute to youth development projects.
This qualification provides an entry point for youth work or an opportunity to build on skills and experience already gained in youth work. The qualification may lead onto the New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work (Level 4) [Ref: 2449] or to higher level qualifications in the social services.
Employees and volunteers may be required to undergo checks to ensure they are a fit and proper person to provide support to young people.
